A solo exhibition by the longtime UNL photography professor opens Friday, November 6 at WallSpace-LNK, 1624 S. 17th Street. Dave Read will be featured at an opening reception from 5-8 p.m.
Born in Maine, Read worked as a log driver on the Kennebec River and a US Navy musician in Italy before earning an MFA from Ohio University in Athens. He spent more than four decades teaching photography around the country, including 25 years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Now retired, he continues to make and exhibit images, calling photography “his favorite sport.”
The exhibit features the unfolding complexities Read observes in the world, with recent color images taken in Lincoln, Miami, and Cape Cod. Dave Read’s photographs have been exhibited extensively and are represented in several public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Sheldon Museum of Art.
Photographs are available for viewing and purchase Friday through Sunday, November 6-29 from noon to 5 p.m.
The exhibit is supported by the Nebraska Arts Council, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Contributors to WallSpace for Artists and Audiences and Give to Lincoln Day provide additional funding for the gallery.
