“Pariah Dog: Art from the Fringe” featuring self-taught artist Raul Alejandro in June.

A big Thank You! to all those who donated during Give to Lincoln month/day. More info forthcoming after we receive our final report from the Lincoln Community Foundation!

“Pariah Dog: Art from the Fringe” opens Friday, June 5, at WallSpace-LNK, 1624 S. 17th Street. A public reception will feature self-taught artist Raul Alejandro from 5 to 8 p.m.

Born in Mexico City, he has lived in Paris, New York City, Los Angeles, Oaxaca, Puerto Rico, and Portland. He now resides in Lincoln.

The works of Diego Rivera, Gustav Klimt, Ralph Steadman, graffiti and cave paintings have influenced the artist’s style, but none more than his son’s and daughter’s childhood drawings, which in fact inspired him to become a painter. His work is done mostly on found objects, primarily brown paper and boxes and whatever he can find that will serve as canvas.

Northwest artist and critic Tom Reith notes “Raul’s paintings appeal to emotion and attention with captivating images of subtle beauty mixed with the collective darkness, the duality the artist taps into and grapples with.”

Complete details about the artist and his work is at wallspace-lnk.com. Works are available for viewing and purchase Fridays – Sundays, June 5-28, from noon to 5 p.m.

The exhibit is supported by contributors to WallSpace for Artists and Audiences and the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

We look forward to seeing you in person at the gallery soon!
