Carol Haerer spent her childhood in North Platte and graduated with a BFA from the University of Nebraska in 1954. A 1955 Fulbright Fellowship took her to the Sorbonne in Paris from whence she traveled and painted across many Mediterranean cities for two years. This experience influenced her life’s work. Her lyrical abstract paintings may connote luminous water reflections, ancient cityscapes, and geologic formations.

After receiving her MFA from UC Berkeley, she moved to New York City. From the 1960s-1990s many of her paintings received considerable critical attention from art critics, museums, and galleries. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1988. A solo exhibition of her “White Paintings” at the Sheldon Museum of Art in 1998 explored some of her monumental works. Her work is held by Guggenheim and Whitney museums in New York, the Sheldon Museum of Art and MONA in Nebraska and other museums and private collections.

Haerer continued to create until her death in 2002.

Select works will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to the support fund for fine art graduate students held at the University of Nebraska Foundation.

The Carol Haerer exhibition has been curated by
Elizabeth &  Daniel Nelson.
